In a loft conversion there is often no elevation left to work with, and a pitched rooflight is the only way to get usable daylight and ventilation into the space. Correct flashing to the tile or slate profile is the whole job here — done badly, it leaks.
Top-hung and centre-pivot versions both open for ventilation, and egress-rated units can be specified where building regulations require an escape route from the room.
